State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

A festival of urban knitting will take place in Izborsk Museum Reserve on September 8.  

Lamp-posts, fences, trees, benches and everything that can be decorated with knitted elements will become objects of art.

The festival of urban knitting is a new type of art. It is also called Yarnbombing that means  bombardment with yarn.

Annually hundreds of people take part in such festivals. This year the slogan of this cultural action is “The art of sharing”. Seto people working in Izborsk Musuem Reserve would like to share with everyone their traditions of making laces. Everyone is invited to take part in the festival and it does not matter what knitting technique you use.

The festival will take place in three places at the same time: in Izborsk State Museum Reserve of History, Architecture and Land, in the History Museum of Pechory and in Seto People Homestead Museum in Sigovo Village. It will start at 12.00 noon.

Everybody is invited to take part in it!

Children and adults will be able to take part in master classes in knitting, in making all kinds of accessories of yarn and threads. Competitions will also be organized.

The objects decorated with yarn will stay decorated until late September 2018.

On September 8 entrance to Izborsk fortress will be free for the participants of the festival.

On September 15 the most original and creative knitted decoration of a tree will be chosen as a result of people’s voting.
