29 April 2021

An exhibition entitled “Pavlovsk. A Journey through Time” has opened in Izborsk State Museum Reserve.

A unique exhibit “An Atlas of Pavlovsk palace with gardens and zoos as well as all buildings located there. 1799” is on display for the first time in merchant Belyanin’s house. This unique exhibit is in the care of Pavlovsk State Museum Reserve.

This is an architectural encyclopedia of Pavlovsk, one of the most valuable iconographic sources getting one acquainted with the history of architecture of Pavlovsk palace and garden ensemble. It is a valuable historical exhibit as well. It was created at the time of the first owners of Pavlovsk – Emperor Pavel I and Empress Maria Fyodorovna and was used to illustrate the stories about the buildings and the landscapes of the estate. The atlas represents paintings of the facades of buildings, the plans and sectional drawings of the palace, all the park and significant buildings of Pavlovsk, as well as the plan of the whole estate and various landscape paintings of Pavlovsk park.

The Atlas was restored with the support of “Russia-Latvia Cross Border Cooperation Programme” in 2020 in the framework of the project entitled “630 Versts Full of Feelings”.

The exhibition invites its visitors to go for a walk in Pavlovsk park, starting in the 18 th and finishing in the 21st century. The visitors are able to see different corners of the park through the eyes of artists Gavriil Sergeyev, the author of the Atlas created in 1799, and Yuriy Molodkovets, a modern world famous photographer.

We are happy to see you daily from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. in Merchant Belyanin’s house (Pechorskaya str., 39)
