State historical-architectural, landscape and natural museum-preserve «Izborsk»

Dear friends!

We are happy to welcome you in legendary Izborsk land, which preserves «the traditions of old times». This place is the beginning of Russian land and the birthplace of Russian statehood.

In 2012 Izborsk — one of the most ancient Russian towns — will celebrate the 1150th anniversary of its being mentioned in Russian chronicles. It is hard to underestimate the importance of Izborsk for Russia as a symbol of Russian statehood and the place of pilgrimage. Truvorovo gorodische, Truvor’s cross, Izborsk fortress, the catheadral of st. Nicholas, the recently created and consecrated monument, called the Hill of Russian glory — have a great symbolic value and are well known not only in Russia but also abroad.

For several centuries Izborsk — a front-line fortress in Pskov’s «stone shield» of defense — defended the North-Western borders of Russia, playing an important role in preserving the Orthodox faith and the independence of Russian state.

Izborsk’s 1150 years history and its today’s development enable us to consider this place to be a symbol of courage, loyalty to its Motherland, its faith and beliefs.

Izborsk has always been famous for its traditional Russian hospitality. And it always returned the love it received.

Have a lot of pleasant impressions and happy discoveries!
